01 · Why USDC on Base?
Three reasons. USDC is the stablecoin x402 facilitators (Coinbase, Cloudflare) target by default. Base is where the agent-economy cohort already lives. Settlement is sub-second with sub-cent fees — the only combination that makes per-call pricing viable.
02 · Why not just use Stripe or a custodial gateway?
Custodial gateways assume a human signs up. Autonomous agents don't sign up. They need stateless, account-free payment they can issue from a wallet, and an HTTP-native standard for it. That's what x402 provides and what TOLL packages.
03 · How is TOLL different from Virtuals, CrotaFi, Clanker, Bankr?
Those projects operate at the agent layer — launching agents, wiring them to wallets, routing requests between agents. TOLL operates at the tool layer — the things agents call on the other end. Different primitive. Adjacent, not competing.
04 · Is $TOLL required to use the protocol?
No. Agents pay tools in USDC. $TOLL is used by tool operators to list, by curators to review, and by holders for governance and fee rebates. Calling a tool never requires holding $TOLL.
05 · Is $TOLL a security?
TOLL is structured as a utility token: fair launch, no pre-mine, no team allocation, no promise of returns. Nothing on this site is an offer to sell securities. Consult counsel in your jurisdiction.
06 · Who runs TOLL?

07 · How do I list an MCP tool?

08 · Why not Solana? Why not Lightning?
Lightning has the technical primitives but the agent and tool operators are not there. Solana works for x402 in principle but Anthropic-and-friends' rollout has anchored on Base + USDC. We chase the cohort, not the chain religion.
